BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, hosts an annual gala dinner to honor the achievements of distinguished individuals and companies in the entertainment industry. The Britannias were most recently held on October 30, 2015 at the iconic awards venue The Beverly Hilton. Thunder Studios was delighted to be a Silver Sponsor and hosted a terrific table of industry veterans. Honorees on the night included legends such as Meryl Streep and Harrison Ford as well as comedy geniuses James Corden and Amy Schumer. With ‘Spectre’ director Sam Mendes being honored and Jaguar Land Rover as title sponsor, it wasn’t too surprising to be greeted upon arrival by the unbelievable $1 million+ Jaguar C-X75 concept car driven by Bond villain Mr. Hinx in the film. The car is an absolute thing of beauty and powered by a 542bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8.

As the evening progressed, Liz and I were lucky enough to spend some time with Adam McKay, the supremely talented director of ‘The Big Short’. We had a fascinating chat about our personal experiences of the Global Financial Crisis and his process of adapting Michael Lewis’s non-fiction book into the feature film. We also had a laugh when we discovered that Adam was an Executive Producer on the miniseries ‘The Spoils of Babylon’ shot at Thunder Studios. It was terrific to see him go on to win the well-deserved Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘The Big Short’. All in all, it was a fantastic night with some of Hollywood’s most talented and accomplished players.
